Fruit based spirits are traditionally a community affair, and from day one it's always been important to bring this spirit with us into Nubilum. Preparing buckets of fruit for distillation is tedious work, we won't lie, but when we get to invite people to join us, and trade stories and laughs while we work makes it much faster (and 10x more fun!). Many hands make like work and all that!

The best part about making small batches with our community is the story that comes with them; and this is Mary's story.

The blood oranges used in this rum started as a twinkle in the eye of Bron’s mum, Mary—a feisty Scottish lady with a green thumb and hips that didn’t always cooperate. She recently passed away, leaving behind not just memories but also her blood orange tree which blossomed with fruit after her passing.

Bron, her husband, sister and a neighbor rolled up their sleeves and we spent a day at the distillery preparing the fruit for fermentation. It was a day of hard work, harder laughter, and stories that might make even a stoic bartender tear up.

Here's what they had to say "What a great thing to do with your leftover fruit, and be able to support local at the same time. We had a ball. Anybody who has a bit of fruit we'd recommend them to come in and spend some time with Kat and Will, we had a fantastic time. They're so generous in taking the time to talk you through the process, it was so relaxed and we can't wait to try the final product.”

Every bottle of this Blood Orange Rum is an ode to a remarkable lady and a testament to the fact that great things happen when community comes together (and when you mix rum with just about anything).

Each bottle of this rum comes from Barrel #2, and has been infused with some of the peel from Bron & Mary's fruit.

The leftover peel is continuting to macerate in a Demijohn, patiently waiting to be turned into a Blood Orange Spirit 🤤 (another Inner Circle release for the future...)
