Where to buy Rakia in Australia?
Where to Buy It, How to Drink It, and Why You Need It in Your Life.
So, you’re on the hunt for rakia (or rakija, raki, rakiya, rachiu—whatever spelling tickles your fancy). Maybe you’ve had a sip of this fiery fruit spirit at a family gathering, a mate’s barbecue, at that incredible wedding, or on a wild adventure through the Balkans. Or maybe you’ve just heard whispers of its legendary ability to cure everything from heartbreak to the common cold (disclaimer: not medically verified, but we’re standing by it). Either way, you’ve landed in the right place.
Welcome to Nubilum Distilling, where we craft the finest rakia in Australia, right here in West Melbourne—one small batch at a time.
What Is Rakia, Exactly?
If you’ve never had the pleasure, let us introduce you. Rakia is a traditional fruit brandy, most commonly made from plums, pears, or grapes. It’s been fuelling good times (and questionable decisions) across the Balkans for centuries. Every country has its own spin on it—Serbia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Albania, Greece, Romania—they all claim to have the best. But guess what? You don’t have to book a flight to get your hands on the good stuff. You can get our top-tier, handcrafted rakia delivered straight to your doorstep, no passport required.
At Nubilum, we take a hands-on approach—literally. Our rakia starts with fruit that’s as local as it gets: backyard-grown pears, plums sourced from local fruit farmers & growers, plus whatever our neighbours are happy to share. No waste, just good old-fashioned resourcefulness. From there, we let nature do its thing, fermenting the fruit slowly to draw out the rich, deep flavours. Then, we fire up our still “Hannelore”, distilling each batch with care to make sure we capture the spirit’s bold, fruity essence. Finally, it’s bottled up, ready to make its way into your glass.
When our neighbours and locals have fruit to spare we’ll host them in our distillery for a “make your own spirit” day - we love inviting people to be part of the process from preparing the fruit for fermentation, to blending & bottling.
Handmade, traditional, and absolutely delicious.

How to Drink Rakia Like a Pro
Rakia isn’t just a drink; it’s a ritual. Here’s how to do it properly:
🥃 Neat and Room Temp – The purist’s choice. Sip it slowly, like a fine whisky. Let the flavours do the talking.
🍐 Chilled and in a Shot Glass – If you like a crisper, smoother sip, pop your bottle in the fridge.
🍹 In a Cocktail – Controversial but delicious. Rakia plays surprisingly well with citrus, herbs, and even tonic. Our Rakia Margarita is our most popular cocktail at the bar!
🫒 With Meze (Snacks!) – Cheese, olives, cured meats—whatever you’d pair with wine, try it with rakia. Trust us.
Why Choose Nubilum Distilling’s Rakia?

✔️ Distilled with Passion (and a Bit of Madness) – We’re a bunch of spirit nerds who love what we do, and it shows in every bottle.
✔️ Available Right Here in Australia – No need to smuggle it back in your suitcase or beg your overseas relatives to send a care package.
Whether you call it rakia, rakija, raki, rakiya, or just “that dangerously smooth fruit spirit,” one thing’s for sure—you need to try our take on this age-old classic.
