Old Fashioned Rummy

Rum

J.E. Alexander describes the cocktail in 1833 as he encountered it in New York City as being rum, gin or brandy, significant water, bitters and sugar; though he includes a nutmeg garnish as well.

INGREDIENTS

60ml Rum

1 bar spoon 2:1 simple syrup

1 dash Angostura Bitters

Orange peel to garnish

DIRECTIONS

  • In a rocks glass, stir syrup and bitters until fully blended

  • Pour rum on top of blend

  • Add ice

  • Garnish with orange peel (squeeze into drink first)

If you want it to be even more old fashioned, use our Cask Strength Rum. Make sure you sip slowly as the interaction of the syrup, ice and rum will change the drink over time.
